48 states, Forty thousand miles ….

Imagine packing up the RV with your favorite things and hitting the road for the entire summer — or even longer if you like to full-time, and then …

Racking up more than 40,000 miles over 48 states.

That’s what the family in the video below did.

Freedom! Now that’s what we’re talking about!

Fabulous way to see our beautiful USA! Thanks so much for sharing your adventures. I love to travel with my boys and those times on the road are creating memories for the rest of our lives.

    Great story!

Thank You. Getting the kids involved and seeing the country, especially our history is what living in the USA is all about. Not until I was much older and out of school, visiting places that I had read about in high school, did I realize what I had missed. Seeing is believing. Go get it; Go live it.

I only wish that all of us had been smart enough to make the money that that family has. Some of us had to be the laborer the littl guy who does the work to keep his pocket full. I just could never afford to take the summer off and be with the family every year. Maybe I am jealouse but I have enjoyed my little TT and only get out when I can. Retired Now and have to wait for SS so that I can enjoy more time on the road again. Everyone gets to enjoy in a different way and I Thank God for what I have.

Yes, I agree with Eddy. It takes a lot of money and a lot of folks are very lucky to be on the road. It’s all we can do to get enough money to retire, but we’re hoping to go fulltime in 2012. It would have been nice to have the money these folks have to take off the summer and enjoy so much pleasure with family members.

BGreen - You are so right about the kids. I’m glad you’re able to take your boys on the road with you. I still remember some of the trips I took with my parents. Travel is great because nobody can take away those memories.

To RightOn! There is nothing like travel to really open your eyes about a lot of things, and turning your travels into a living history lessons is an excellent idea!
    Thanks for sharing that!

Dee and Eddy “0″ - Thanks for sharing your positive outlook and gratitude. And for reminding us that we can’t all have everything, but we can be happy for what we do have.

There are some ways to lower your costs when you’re traveling. Like finding a spot you love and just staying put for a while - especially with the cost of fuel.

And you can sometimes get around campground fees if you are boondocking.

And Eddy — This country was built by laborers and I think we completely undervalue the people that do the work of - as you called it - the little guy. So let me say ‘thank you’ for your contribution.

And Dee — The countdown starts now …2012 is not that far off!

Growing up my family was not much into camping but I do remember the road trips. Since I have been on my own I have always destained air ports in favor of the open road. But it has only been since I retired that I have undertaken the RV experience–full time. Having read many blogs (and lived this life for a year now) I would say that choosing travel by RV, even if only for summers, is not necessarily dictated by economics. There are recreational vehicles out there to match every budget (not to mention the options of renting or borrowing from a friend or relative) and if you can afford to take vacations out of town, you can do so cheaper by RV then anyway that requires you to frequent motels and restaurants. And I really can’t think of any better way for a family to bond.
